You can still go walking with Harry Truman in his hometown of Independence, Missouri

Harry S. Truman, the 33rd President of the United States, was a walker. He began each morning with a brisk stroll — much to the consternation of the Secret Service agents who had to keep up with him.

Today, in his hometown of Independence, Missouri, you’ll find his favorite route turned into an official “walking trail“. It’s a 2.7 mile walk along the sidewalks in town. Along the way, you’ll see the familiar figure of history’s most famous walker on these bright blue-and-white signs.
