Once upon a time…when I used to have time to play games, I was an avid “Simmer”. For those who might not know what I’m talking about, I’m referring to The Sims, the computer “life simulation” game from EA. I played the original Sims way back when, moved on to the Sims 2 and loved it, found myself disappointed with Sims 3, and gradually fell away from the game and the “simming” community. I’ve now learned that Sims 4 is coming up, so maybe I’ll have to make a little time and check the new version out when it arrives.

But, back to the DAILY PROMPT. Even  after I stopped actually “playing” the game, I remained an active member of the Sims community. I began creating my own “Sims” and sharing them through the Community Exchange.

I’m also a history lover, so one of the Sims I created and shared was Jackie Kennedy.

Another “simmer” downloaded Jackie, put her in a girl band, and uploaded the video to YouTube. It was hilarious. This all took place about four years ago, and even though I still have the video link, I haven’t been able to get it to work, so I’m not sure if the YouTube video is still there. I’m including it here…maybe someone can try it. If it works, please let me know. I’m guessing it’s probably too old.

The real Jackie Kennedy was definitely a “super star”, and in her own way, my Sims 3 version became a star, too.

Any other “Simmers” out there?

When I saw “I Want to Thank My Cats” as the title for today’s DAILY PROMPT, I was really excited. I have some great cat photos to share. But, then I read on, and saw that for photographers, the prompt was “VICTORY”. I knew at once what picture I’d share today…but golly gee, I wish it had been the cats!

Anyway, here’s “Boomer”.

MVP of the "Lady Tigers"

MVP of the “Lady Tigers”

She’s one of our daughters, and despite being only 5’4″ tall, she was a very good basketball player. She began playing when she was about 9 or thereabouts, played AAU ball for many years, played also in a city-sponsored league, went on to become MVP of her high-school team in her senior year, then attended college on a full-ride basketball scholarship.  (Hey, as her Mom, I’m allowed to brag.)  During her college career, she played in 3 national NAIA tournaments, twice as a player, and once as a player/coach. The first year, the team went to the “Sweet 16”, the following year they made the “Elite 8”, and in her last year, yes, they got to the “Final 4”.

Now, that was exciting!

Today, “Boomer” is a para-professional for an elementary school, working with special needs children. She doesn’t spend much time on the court now, but as a result of her years in sports, she’s demonstrated again and again what it means to be a true “team player”. We’re proud of her, both for her illustrious “career” in basketball and for the outstanding young woman she’s become.

I Know Some People Will Hate Me For This

Today’s prompt…yawn…what bores me? OK, so I don’t usually go around photographing things I find boring, so this was a bit of a challenge. As I browsed through files, I did come across one picture that did make me yawn a bit.

I did a series of black and white shots at a small neighborhood park in Independence, Missouri — home of President Harry Truman. The park, in fact, is directly across the road from the Truman Library.

Here’s my “boring” shot:

I don't patience enough for chess...and I'm even worse at checkers.

I don’t have patience enough for chess…and I’m even worse at checkers.

It’s not that I don’t like chess…I just can’t seem to sit still long enough to get through a game. Instead, I rush through my moves, don’t plan ahead, and needless to say…I lose a lot. So, yeah, sorry, chess can make me yawn a bit.
